Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in food service or kitchen supervision
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds frequently
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Knowledge of Navy Medical and Marine Corps food safety regulations
  • Ability to maintain required certifications
  • Willingness to work in warm, noisy kitchen environments
  • Ability to follow safety protocols

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to direct work activities of a mixed occupational crew
  • Ability to plan and coordinate daily workload
  • Knowledge of food characteristics and cooking procedures
  • Skill in operating kitchen equipment
  • Understanding of safety and sanitary standards
  • Ability to train and guide junior cooks
  • Maintains Navy Medical food safety certification and required training

Job Duties

  • Direct work activities of a mixed occupational crew during assigned shift
  • Plan, coordinate, and time daily assignments for completion at mealtime
  • Adjust recipes for number of servings needed
  • Judge food freshness, color, consistency, taste, and doneness
  • Instruct lower-graded cooks on cooking procedures
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment
  • Ensure compliance with safety and sanitary requirements according to Navy Medical and Marine Corps regulations
