Job Requirements
- health and safety certification recognized by the board of certified safety professionals such as STSC or ability to obtain within first six months of employment
- valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- OSHA 30-hour general industry or construction safety training
- maintained competency with 24 hours of documented formal safety training in past five years
- EM-385 courses preferred
Job Qualifications
- minimum of 5 years of cumulative safety experience within the last ten years managing or implementing a safety program on marine construction projects
- advanced knowledge of federal, state, local and company safety regulations
- ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures
- experience on EM-385 projects preferred
- intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint
Job Duties
- assist the superintendents by recommending safe work practices as part of preplanning and training
- establish jobsite safety procedures
- participate in morning project meetings and kick-off meetings
- conduct comprehensive on-site safety assessments
- conduct daily jobsite assessments and document safety violations or unsafe conditions
- ensure corrective measures are immediately implemented and followed through
- communicate regularly with superintendents, foremen and craft concerning safety practices
- educate project personnel through on-the-job training such as toolbox meetings and one-on-one conversations
- assist superintendent in completing weekly jobsite safety checklists and maintain updated safety deficiency lists
- assure incident reporting and investigations are done and accompany injured employees for medical treatment if necessary
- administer the company’s alcohol and substance abuse policy on the project
- assist project management with guidance on safe work practices
- accompany safety, health and insurance personnel on project tours
- furnish information and assist in preparing appeals for safety violations or citations
- coordinate project safety programs with subcontractors
- assist superintendent in investigating property damage and personal injury incidents
- schedule and arrange crew training for required environmental health and safety courses
- develop job-specific emergency management plans and communicate through orientation
- ensure compliance with contractual obligations
- maintain safety files and records daily
- ensure company safety policies and procedures are understood and implemented
- advocate the company’s culture and Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment
- ensure compliance with company’s code of ethics and business conduct
