Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • previous retail or cashier experience preferred
  • ability to follow instructions and adhere to company policies
  • physical ability to perform duties including lifting, standing and walking for long periods
  • excellent customer service skills
  • basic math proficiency
  • ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • must be at least 18 years old

Job Duties

  • maintain a clean, neat, organized and safe work environment
  • greet all customers and provide them with prompt, courteous service and assistance
  • enter customer information into database for eligibility in company programs
  • be knowledgeable in the various types of products carried in the store
  • sort and return return to stock items, prioritizing refrigerated and perishable items
  • handle all damaged merchandise according to company procedures
  • perform price check functions as needed
  • issue and update information involving rain checks
  • perform scanrites according to company procedures
  • answer phone promptly and professionally, directing calls according to company policy
  • issue refunds and price plus cards
  • understand cash register operation and follow all cash handling procedures
  • enforce all company standards on checkout procedures, cash control, coupons, gift cards, scan rites, merchandise returns, and rain checks
  • check equipment daily for proper performance
  • process all forms of payments including cash, credit, checks, ebt, wic, rain checks, coupons, vouchers and gift cards
  • maintain cash integrity by correctly handling pickups, making change, overseeing podium security and safeguarding tills
  • maintain customer service levels by filling staffing needs, opening registers and calling for assistance
  • check prices and be knowledgeable about item locations in the store
  • regularly lift, pull, push and rotate merchandise up to 50 lbs
  • understand and adhere to company shrink guidelines
  • promote current charitable promotions to customers
  • stand for duration of scheduled shifts, which may exceed 8 hours
  • provide assistance in handling voids, overrides and price plus cards
  • enforce front-end policies and procedures such as dress code, check cashing, coupon redemption, time and attendance, and price plus
  • demonstrate full knowledge of register operations and take a proactive approach when needed
  • monitor breaks to ensure employees punch correctly and breaks are not overstayed
  • ensure compliance with child labor laws
  • utilize required equipment
  • maintain sanitation and QA standards by cleaning all work surfaces and keeping floors clear
  • perform duties according to local, state and federal regulations
  • adhere to company rules and safety standards
  • comply with the company’s HAZCOM program for safe chemical use
  • dress and groom according to company policy including wearing uniform and hair restraints
  • practice proper handwashing and use disposable gloves when handling food
  • complete all applicable training programs
  • follow all ShopRite service priorities of safety, friendliness, presentation and efficiency
  • maintain punctual and regular attendance
  • work overtime as assigned
  • work cooperatively with others
  • operate balers, hi-los, power jacks, and slicing machines if 18 or older
  • perform other duties as assigned
