Job Requirements
- Must be a US citizen
- Must be suitable for federal employment
- Participate in direct deposit pay program
- Successfully pass E-Verify employment verification
- Compliance with military Selective Service registration if applicable
- May require a pre-appointment physical examination
- Obtain and maintain interim and/or final security clearance
- Pass drug testing and be subject to random testing
- Wear required personal protective equipment
- Ability to work in environments with physical and chemical hazards
- Ability to work high noise level environments
- Ability to travel to CONUS and OCONUS duty stations, including remote sites
- Willingness to work uncommon tours including nights, weekends, and holidays
Job Qualifications
- Show quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform shipfitting duties
- Demonstrate ability to perform work without more than normal supervision
- Knowledge and experience consistent with Office of Personnel Management Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations
- Prior experience or training relevant to shipfitting duties
- Ability to interpret technical blueprints and specifications
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to protocols
Job Duties
- Install and fit parts on ships using reference points such as water line, center lines, and frame lines
- Install packing, gaskets, liners, and similar items as needed
- Remove, repair, or replace damaged parts of doors, hatches, and ship structures
- Lay out shell, deck, and bulkhead plates, I-beams, channel bars, angle bars, and other structural shapes from blueprints and mold loft templates
- Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate fabrication and installation
- Maintain safety standards by wearing required personal protective equipment
- Participate in medical surveillance and adhere to workplace safety protocols
