Job Requirements
- must pass tuberculosis screening
- obtain the CA Managers Food Safety Certificate mandatory
- CPR, AED, First Aid, N.E.R.T training helpful
- ability to work flexible schedule including long days, evenings, and weekends
- ability to perform repetitive physical activities for up to 8 hours
- must be in good physical condition for manual labor
- ability to stand for extended periods and possess trunk strength
- frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds
- effective communication skills in person and via telephone or virtual platforms
- willingness to work collaboratively in an open community setting
- ability to follow food safety and sanitation standards
- adherence to COVID vaccination policy barring exemptions
Job Qualifications
- 2+ years experience leading a team in a community-based organization or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- interpersonal skills with willingness to lead, take charge, and supervise a team
- strong communication skills with ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations
- understanding of proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment including stoves, refrigeration, slicer, knives, and dish machine
- demonstrated commitment to quality service and food and beverage knowledge
- knowledge of health and sanitation laws
- ability to work under pressure to serve meals while ensuring safety and sanitation
- excellent organizational and planning abilities with prioritization and multitasking skills
- demonstrated ability to deescalate behaviors
- ability to work effectively across cultures
- proficient in MS Office suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Job Duties
- Direct program staff, interns, volunteers, GA/Community Service workers before, during, and after meal service to ensure efficient operation of the dining room
- assign duties, responsibilities, and workstations in accordance with work requirements
- monitor and report on punctuality and performance
- carry out all facets of kitchen, dining room, and coffeehouse areas during specific meal periods
- work with others to ensure efficient operations
- communicate responsibilities and expectations through regular observation and feedback
- coach and model outstanding customer service, job performance, problem resolution, and client management
- prepare meals and check quality by tasting and smelling
- ensure food portions are correct and presentable
- maintain the cleanliness and readiness of dining room, dish area, kitchen, coffeehouse, and tables
- ensure proper storage and refrigeration of food products
- ensure cleaning and sanitation schedules are followed including compost bin management
- support resolution of personnel issues per policies
- work cooperatively with other departments to problem solve
- provide safety expertise and assessments
- collaborate on project-based assignments
- assist Manager with administrative tasks
- ensure food safety and sanitation compliance according to California regulations
