The Gateway West shelter in Albuquerque, NM, is a vital community resource dedicated to supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness. As the largest shelter in the city, Gateway West serves an average of 600 people each night, with numbers increasing to over 700 during cold winter nights. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of degree
- three to five years of experience in social services or shelter management
- one to two years in a supervisory role
- strong understanding of homelessness issues and social services
- excellent leadership and communication skills
- strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- commitment to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness
- ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural competence
- capacity to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively
- proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and HMIS database
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, or related field
- three to five years of experience in social services or shelter management
- at least one to two years in a supervisory role
- expertise in trauma-informed care
- proficiency in crisis intervention and schedule management
- strong community outreach skills
- proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and HMIS database
Job Duties
- Supervise shelter staff including case managers, intake coordinators, and support personnel
- conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to staff
- facilitate training sessions to enhance staff skills and knowledge
- coordinate staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage and support during peak hours
- manage crisis intervention and emergency situations calmly and professionally
- build partnerships with local agencies and community organizations to enhance shelter services
- utilize data analytics to track shelter operations, client progress, and program effectiveness
