Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or g.e.d.
  • one year prior experience in security or social services in a shelter or similar environment
  • ability to meet attendance requirements
  • ability to read, write, and communicate in english effectively
  • ability to perform data entry into a computer
  • ability to respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations
  • physical ability to perform sitting, standing, and walking frequently
  • ability to lift and carry objects up to 30 lbs occasionally
  • ability to follow established policies and procedures
  • must support the religious mission of The Salvation Army

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or g.e.d.
  • one year prior experience in security or social services in a shelter or related environment
  • knowledge of record keeping and office procedures
  • ability to communicate effectively and motivate clients
  • ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • knowledge of proper cooking methods
  • ability to maintain professional image of the organization
  • valid state driver’s license preferred
  • food handlers certification or ability to obtain
  • cpr or first aid certification or ability to obtain

Job Duties

  • assist residents staying overnight in the shelter
  • perform client intake procedures and prepare client intake records
  • monitor resident activity to ensure safety and compliance with house rules
  • maintain accurate and complete records and logs
  • ensure the facility is kept neat and orderly
  • enforce building security including checking client belongings for prohibited items
  • respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies
  • perform client intake including sexual offender checks and maintain resident roster
  • administer breathalyzer and drug tests as required
  • distribute meal and shower tickets, assign beds, and provide linens and hygiene items
  • assign daily chores to clients and ensure their completion
  • participate in cleaning and maintenance of the facility
  • verify client employment and hospital stays
  • communicate with first responders in emergencies
  • notify supervisor of referral issues and special circumstances
  • perform other duties as assigned
