Job Description

Gateway West is Albuquerque's largest homeless shelter, located at 7440 Jim McDowell Rd. This full-time shelter provides a safe and welcoming space for an average of 600 people per night, increasing to over 700 during cold winter nights. Gateway West operates year-round and offers a variety of critical services including meals, warm overnight beds, secure under-bed storage, and shuttle services daily. Job Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain City Operator’s Permit
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of progressive experience in office procedures and customer service and driving
  • Ability to work full-time schedule Monday-Friday with possible weekends and holidays
  • Ability to adapt to schedule changes and various weather conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and accountability

Job Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain City Operator’s Permit
  • Experience operating passenger vans or buses
  • Strong communication skills

Job Duties

  • Operate shuttle to transport shelter residents to medical appointments, prescription pick-ups, and suspension-related travel needs
  • Follow scheduled routes and respond to urgent or crisis transport requests
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle checks
  • Assist residents with boarding and ensure seat-belt use
  • Drive safely in varying weather and road conditions
  • Maintain detailed documentation including incident reports, trip logs, and passenger rosters
  • Assist with general shelter duties as needed
