Gateway West is Albuquerque's largest shelter, dedicated to offering a safe and welcoming environment for people experiencing homelessness. Serving an average of 600 individuals nightly and accommodating over 700 during cold winter nights, Gateway West operates year-round, providing essential services including meals, warm overnight beds, and secure under-bed storage. Job Requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a City Operator’s Permit
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years progressive experience in office procedures and customer service and driving
- Experience operating passenger vans or buses
- Ability to adapt to various weather conditions
- Ability to respond calmly to medical or vehicular emergencies
- Dependable and detail-oriented
- Willingness to assist with shelter operations when not driving
Job Qualifications

- At least two years of progressive experience in general office procedures, customer service, and driving
- Experience operating passenger vans or buses

Job Duties
- Operate the shelter shuttle to transport residents to medical appointments, prescription pick-ups, and suspension-related travel needs
- Respond to urgent or crisis transport requests and prioritize medically fragile residents
- Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle safety checks
- Assist residents with boarding and seatbelt use
- Drive in varying weather and road conditions while ensuring passenger safety
- Maintain accurate incident reports, trip logs, and passenger rosters
- Support shelter operations by assisting with general tasks as required
