Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
technical schooling preferred
valid Class B CDL license with hazardous material endorsement
current Medical Examiner's Certificate
clearance certificate such as TWIC
completion of DOT, OSHA, and NFPA courses
at least four years of related experience with minimum two years as Service Technician III
demonstrated technical skills in gas appliance servicing
ability to respond to emergencies
competent driving skills
strong customer service abilities
ability to use computer systems
willingness to comply with safety regulations
clean driving record

Job Qualifications

Preferably a high school graduate with technical schooling
completed required DOT, OSHA, and NFPA courses
maintains minimum passing scores for recurring courses
possesses valid Class B CDL license with hazardous material endorsement and no restrictions on air brakes or transmission
holds valid Medical Examiner's Certificate and clearance certificate such as TWIC
satisfactory completion of in-house Service Technician Training and Field Evaluation
at least four years of progressive experience including two years as Service Technician III
demonstrated ability to install, repair, test and adjust gas appliances and systems
strong knowledge of departmental rules, codes such as NFPA 58 and 59, regulations, and safety practices
qualified in all phases of the job description
proficient in tool and equipment use
able to drive safely with clean traffic record
ability to use computer

Job Duties

Inspects and tests appliances, equipment, and associated systems on customers premises
checks high pressure service for dust, water or plug
discusses major repairs and costs with customers
initiates maintenance tags
uses leak-detecting solutions and gas detection equipment to diagnose problems
fixes problems by cleaning, adjusting, repairing, or replacing parts such as burners, pilot lights, controls, flues, gas cocks, valves, regulators, and meters
verifies repair effectiveness
locks, unlocks, reads, changes, and removes meters
delivers cylinders as directed
investigates high bill complaints
collects money on C.O.D orders and plug meter orders
accounts for revenues collected
functions as first responder in gas-related emergencies
performs emergency repairs and applies stoppers
directs personnel at emergency sites
provides courteous customer service and advises consumers on appliance operation
drives service truck and maintains truck supplies
performs clerical and administrative duties including reports and data input
complies with safety rules, regulations and practices and promotes safety
maintains EH&S training
performs as Installer 1/C, Tank Truck Driver, Cylinder Driver or Meter Reader when required
performs related work as directed by supervisor or manager
performs all other related duties as instructed
