Job Requirements

  • must be a minimum 18 years of age at time of application
  • possession of a valid California driver’s license
  • willingness to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, nights, and split shifts
  • ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
  • ability to perform occasional lifting of 75 to 100 lbs
  • ability to work in confined spaces
  • ability to perform manual labor and custodial duties of a routine nature
  • able to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic
  • able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others
  • willingness to submit to background investigations if assigned to Airport or Police departments
  • physical capability to frequently perform heavy manual labor and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs
  • willingness to work in outdoor environments with exposure to noise and chemicals

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or GED equivalency
  • possession of a valid California driver’s license
  • ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
  • ability to perform occasional lifting of 75 to 100 lbs
  • ability to work in confined spaces
  • ability to perform manual labor and custodial duties of a routine nature
  • ability to read and write at a level necessary for acceptable job performance
  • ability to perform basic arithmetic
  • ability to prepare basic reports and maintain work records
  • ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work

Job Duties

  • Sweep, mop, and clean areas
  • clean and sanitize restrooms
  • load and unload supplies and materials
  • work as part of a maintenance crew involved in city service areas such as parks, streets, forestry, airport, or utilities
  • operate large riding mowers, tractors, and other turf maintenance equipment
  • apply herbicides with large and small sprayers
  • lead crews of non-paid labor including court referrals and youth summer program participants
  • operate construction equipment such as dump trucks, rollers, and front loaders
  • operate a variety of power tools such as hammers, compressors, paint sprayers, and saws
  • maintain and repair public sprinkler systems
  • pick up trash on property and remove noxious weeds
  • if assigned to the airport, perform airfield inspections
  • build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees, and the public using principles of good customer service
  • observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures
  • perform related duties as assigned
