Job Requirements

  • Must be minimum 18 years of age at time of application
  • possession of a valid California driver’s license with current DMV printout prior to employment offer
  • willingness to work flexible hours including weekends, nights, holidays, and split shifts
  • ability to perform occasional lifting of 75 to 100 pounds
  • experience working in confined spaces
  • ability to read and write at a level necessary for job performance
  • physical capacity for frequent heavy manual labor, standing for long periods, bending, and squatting
  • willingness to undergo background investigations including fingerprinting when assigned to police
  • FAA background check when assigned to airport
  • ability to work in environments with loud noise, chemicals, and fumes

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
  • basic arithmetic skills
  • ability to prepare basic reports and maintain work records
  • communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others
  • knowledge of safe work practices and general maintenance tools, materials, and equipment

Job Duties

  • Sweep, mop, and clean areas including restrooms
  • load and unload supplies and materials
  • work as part of a maintenance crew in city service areas such as parks, streets, forestry, airport, or utilities
  • operate large riding mowers, tractors, and turf maintenance equipment
  • apply herbicides with various sprayers
  • lead crews of non-paid labor including court referrals and youth participants
  • operate construction equipment such as dump trucks, rollers, and front loaders and power tools like hammers, compressors, paint sprayers, and saws
  • maintain and repair public sprinkler systems
  • pick up trash and remove noxious weeds
  • perform airfield inspections if assigned to airport
  • build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, city employees, and the public
  • observe and maintain safe working environment following safety programs and procedures
  • perform related duties as assigned
