Job Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or a related field preferred
- At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in occupational safety and health programs
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day and work flexible shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- Physical ability to work in outdoor environments including confined spaces and high traffic areas
- Willingness to wear personal protective equipment as required
- Ability to provide 24 or more hours per week of onsite presence
- Successful completion of criminal background check and other pre-employment screenings

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or related field preferred
- Proven experience in occupational safety and health program administration
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations including OSHA and Washington State Labor and Industries standards
- Experience conducting safety training and developing training materials
- Skills in incident investigation and root cause analysis
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and provide effective safety guidance
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with emergency response and critical incident management
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting
- Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions and physical demands
Job Duties
- Develop, implement, and maintain the department’s safety and health program including policies, procedures, guidelines, and training
- Prepare safety guidance and informational materials for employees, supervisors, and management
- Develop and deliver occupational safety, health, and industrial hygiene training
- Review and investigate workplace violence reports and provide related training on workplace violence, active attacker response, and personal safety
- Coordinate specialty training by contracting with external vendors
- Enter reported incident data into department systems and prepare quarterly summaries of incident trends and rates
- Investigate workplace accidents and near misses, determine root causes, identify trends, and recommend corrective or preventive measures
- Activate and participate in the department’s critical incident response team as needed
- Inspect facilities and work sites for compliance with safety and health standards and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Evaluate work areas and operations using monitoring equipment and observation to identify hazards
- Maintain and analyze incident, accident, and safety data and prepare reports recommending safety improvements
- Develop safe work procedures for equipment use and ensure compliance with regulations
- Research safety and health topics and communicate findings to employees, committees, unions, and management
- Plan and conduct employee safety and health training
- coordinate guest presenters
- support monthly safety committee meetings
- Represent the department on citywide safety committees
- serve as liaison during Washington State Labor and Industries audits
- help resolve safety issues involving unions
- Respond to public-reported safety concerns and inquiries related to employee safety compliance
- Distribute safety bulletins and updated compliance posters to worksite coordinators
- Review, evaluate, and provide feedback on personal protective equipment, departmental projects, materials and equipment for regulatory compliance
