Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED
  • One year of recreation, customer service, or related leadership experience
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain valid CPR and First Aid certificates within 90 days of employment
  • Must pass Live Scan fingerprint screening or background check
  • Ability to work extended hours including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull light to moderate weight
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software
  • Valid food safety handling knowledge and compliance for café management

Job Qualifications

  • Possession of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
  • One year of recreation, customer service or related leadership experience relevant to the area of assignment
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of leadership
  • Knowledge of proper care and use of recreation equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Knowledge of city recreational activities and special events
  • Knowledge of techniques of instruction for conducting recreation programs
  • Knowledge of common sports, games, and recreational activities
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • Knowledge of cash handling, accounting, and record-keeping techniques
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, and computer applications
  • Ability to lead lower-level staff and volunteers including training and coordination
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to make basic mathematical calculations, count money and make change
  • Ability to maintain equipment and facilities in a clean and safe manner
  • Ability to multi-task, organize work independently, and meet deadlines

Job Duties

  • Directs and leads the work of lower-level staff assisting in programs or events
  • Assists in the development, promotion, and implementation of a diversified recreation program for all ages in accordance with community needs
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends ideas for change
  • Oversees participants and volunteers in arts and crafts, sports, games, homework tutorials, and recreational activities
  • Accompanies participants on program outings
  • Perform general set-up, maintenance, and custodial duties (e.g., cleaning, arranging tables/chairs)
  • Answer a wide variety of questions from the public about city events, programs, and services
  • Maintains a safe program environment and facility

  • Enforce rules, regulations, and policies, to maintain program discipline communicating with parents on a regular basis
  • Serve as a positive role model and leader
  • Assist in the inventory of program supplies and equipment

  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Supervises and monitors all aspects of food handling and serving for senior meals program, ensuring compliance with California Retail Food Safety Law and Program Policies and Procedures
  • Orders and verifies receipt of meals from the County-designated caterer
  • Responsible for cleanliness and proper sanitation of the kitchen facility and food service area
  • Inventories and orders supplies and paper goods
  • Responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, and safeguard of all equipment and supplies
  • Responsible for safeguarding and reporting of participant Meal Income Contributions and Non-Senior Meal Fees following State and Federal regulations and Program Policies and Procedures
