Job Description
The City Recreation Department is dedicated to providing a wide range of affordable and accessible recreational programs and services to enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages and backgrounds. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- one year of relevant leadership or customer service experience
- valid California Class C Driver's License
- CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
- minimum age 18 years
- successful completion of Live Scan fingerprint or background check
- ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions
- availability to work evenings, weekends, and variable shifts
- physical ability to stand or sit for extended periods
- ability to perform light to moderate physical tasks including lifting and bending
Job Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED
- one year of recreation, customer service, or related leadership experience
- knowledge of leadership principles
- knowledge of recreation equipment, materials, and supplies
- familiarity with city recreational activities and special events
- ability to lead staff and volunteers
- ability to interpret laws, rules, regulations, and policies
- basic math skills for cash handling
- skill in maintaining equipment and facility safety
- ability to organize work and meet deadlines
- professional communication skills
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- proficiency in computer systems and software
- current California Class C Driver's License

- must be at least 18 years old

Job Duties
- Directs and leads the work of lower-level staff assisting in programs or events
- assists in the development, promotion, and implementation of a diversified recreation program
- evaluates program effectiveness and recommends changes
- oversees participants and volunteers in arts, sports, games, homework tutorials, and recreational activities
- accompanies participants on program outings
- performs general set-up, maintenance, and custodial duties
- answers public inquiries about city events and programs
- maintains a safe program environment and conducts safety checks
- enforces rules and communicates with parents
- serves as a positive role model and leader
- assists in inventory of supplies
- handles cash transactions
- completes required paperwork and reports
- provides courteous customer service
- supervises food handling and serving for senior meals program
- ensures food service compliance with California Retail Food Safety Law
- orders and verifies receipt of meals
- maintains cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and food service areas
- inventories and orders supplies and paper goods
- safeguards equipment and supplies
- reports participant meal income contributions and fees
- performs other related duties as assigned
