Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of relevant part-time experience at a program specialist level
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License may be required
  • Negative tuberculin test
  • Certification in CPR desirable
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds with assistance
  • Physically capable of bending, kneeling, squatting, running, and climbing
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and shifts
  • Successful completion of background check and pre-employment medical examination

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Two years of increasingly responsible part-time experience at the level of a Program Specialist
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Cultural Studies, or related field is desirable
  • Ability to work on a computer and with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn and use software related to theater technology including lighting and sound software
  • Ability to design sound and set-up and run sound equipment for varied indoor and outdoor events
  • Ability to design scenery and lighting for theatrical productions and staged events
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate both orally and in writing
  • Understanding of conflict resolution
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, city personnel, and the public
  • Ability to train, supervise, and direct subordinate part-time personnel
  • Ability to perform job duties under minimal supervision
  • Willingness to work night and weekend hours

Job Duties

  • Plan, organize, and direct major theatre company and cultural services city events
  • Supervise multiple sites or complex site operations
  • Perform technical support activities for events such as Torrance Summer Nights and Cherry Blossom Festival
  • Assist in safe operation and maintenance of theater sound, lighting, rigging, and related equipment
  • Operate and maintain equipment, materials, tools, and supplies used in technical production and set design
  • Evaluate equipment needs and notify supervisor of repair or replacement requirements
  • Troubleshoot theater equipment
