Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age by July 1 of the current year
- Two years of experience in recreation programming, facility operation and/or supervision in human services, cultural arts, recreation, leisure services or related areas
- Equivalent to completion of one year of college coursework in recreation, community services or related field
- Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid California driver’s license or ability to use alternative transportation
- Ability to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and holidays

- Knowledge of basic methods, procedures and practices of recreational activities
- Knowledge of principles and practices of supervising children and young adults
- Knowledge of principles and practices of coordinating activities
- Knowledge of safe work practices
- Ability to learn the principles and objectives of recreational activities
- Effective communication skills both oral and written
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to plan, organize and review work of assigned staff
- Ability to develop program goals and objectives
- Ability to develop and implement publicity programs
Job Duties
- Assist in planning, coordinating and conducting recreation activities for children and young adults
- Implement activities such as games, contests, arts and crafts, skits and sports
- Ensure the set-up and safety of facilities for planned activities
- Oversee the use of facilities ensuring patrons follow policies and procedures
- Report facility maintenance concerns and maintain adequate supplies and inventory
- Assist in special events and seasonal recreational activities
- Plan, coordinate and review the work of assigned part-time recreation staff
- Develop recreation program goals, policies and procedures
- Develop and implement publicity for programs and services
- Develop youth or adult programs by assessing community needs
- Organize and participate in fundraisers
- Research and prepare reports, publicity, and statistical data
- Maintain records and disseminate program information
