Job Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age by July 1 of the current year
Two years of experience in recreation programming, facility operation and/or supervision in human services, cultural arts, recreation, leisure services or related areas
Equivalent to completion of one year of college coursework in recreation, community services or related field
Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid California driver’s license or ability to use alternative transportation
Ability to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

Knowledge of basic methods, procedures and practices of recreational activities
Knowledge of principles and practices of supervising children and young adults
Knowledge of principles and practices of coordinating activities
Knowledge of safe work practices
Ability to learn the principles and objectives of recreational activities
Effective communication skills both oral and written
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to plan, organize and review work of assigned staff
Ability to develop program goals and objectives
Ability to develop and implement publicity programs

Job Duties

Assist in planning, coordinating and conducting recreation activities for children and young adults
Implement activities such as games, contests, arts and crafts, skits and sports
Ensure the set-up and safety of facilities for planned activities
Oversee the use of facilities ensuring patrons follow policies and procedures
Report facility maintenance concerns and maintain adequate supplies and inventory
Assist in special events and seasonal recreational activities
Plan, coordinate and review the work of assigned part-time recreation staff
Develop recreation program goals, policies and procedures
Develop and implement publicity for programs and services
Develop youth or adult programs by assessing community needs
Organize and participate in fundraisers
Research and prepare reports, publicity, and statistical data
Maintain records and disseminate program information
