Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Urban and/or Regional Planning, Architecture, Economics, Environmental Management, Geography or Engineering plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience in planning and zoning
  • OR Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Urban and/or Regional Planning, Architecture, Economics, Environmental Management, Geography or Engineering plus a minimum of six (6) years of experience in planning and zoning
  • Experience writing technical reports
  • Advanced technical graphics skills
  • Some knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban and/or Regional Planning, Architecture, Economics, Environmental Management, Geography or Engineering
  • Minimum of two years experience in planning and zoning with a Bachelor's degree
  • Associate Degree with six years experience in planning and zoning is acceptable
  • Experience in writing technical reports
  • Advanced technical graphics skills
  • Some knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Eligibility for AICP certification
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with good driving record

Job Duties

  • Prepares amendments to the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code regulations
  • Assists in the development of elements of the City’s Comprehensive Plan including future land use, capital improvements, coastal management, conservation, housing, infrastructure, intergovernmental coordination, recreation and open space and transportation
  • Researches and prepares draft ordinances and resolutions
  • Reviews private land use, zoning, development, annexation, variance, subdivision, site plan, conditional use applications for compliance
  • Provides guidance to the public and business community through regular contact
  • Provides oral and written presentations concerning municipal planning projects
  • Responds to public inquiries regarding applications and plan interpretations
  • Develops and implements architectural design standards and guidelines
  • Prepares GIS maps and graphic displays
  • Serves as project coordinator for planning and planned unit development projects
  • Compiles data and prepares reports and records for documentation and future reference
  • Acts as planning liaison representing the Division with local and regional groups
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to planners
  • Attends meetings as required
