Job Requirements

  • must maintain physical standards including mobility and physical strength and stamina to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • ability to climb stairs bend and crouch
  • ability to reach hold grasp and turn objects
  • ability to use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards
  • ability to read printed materials
  • ability to hear and communicate before groups in person and over the telephone
  • equivalent to graduation from high school
  • two years of experience performing similar work in a senior center or parks and recreation facility

  • knowledge of basic principles and techniques of food service
  • understanding of sanitation storage and safety procedures for serving food
  • ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • mathematical skills for accounting and record keeping
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to supervise volunteers and establish rapport with senior participants

Job Duties

  • perform as a host or hostess as participants arrive eat their meals and as they leave
  • organize and coordinate the daily service of meals at the designated time monday through friday or on day(s) contracted to serve
  • complete required 100 N form on every new senior participant and report this confidential data to Senior Nutrition Services
  • plan and offer seniors additional activities to increase socialization aspects of the program
  • coordinate and supervise the meal reservation system to ensure efficient serving of meals
  • supervise and account for daily receipt of donations and distribute meal tickets
  • monitor and record food temperatures on form provided as required by Senior Nutrition Services
  • prepare reports and keep records on provided forms related to food service activities
  • distribute Home Delivered Meals to volunteer drivers
  • report any problems or concerns with homebound seniors to the Parks and Recreation Department
  • recruit select and supervise volunteers in performing food services
  • maintain an orderly safe and sanitary kitchen and dining room
  • perform related duties as required
