Job Requirements

  • Requires sitting for extended periods, standing, visual acuity, manual dexterity and fingering for computer work
  • Ability to lift and rearrange equipment, materials and supplies
  • Visits various accident or related locations affecting service operation
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods while operating computer and office equipment
  • Must live within CTA statutory service area at time of employment or within 6 months
  • Must be available to work 7 days per week, 24 hours per day including holidays
  • Subject to 24-hour on-call
  • Working hours may change based on departmental needs
  • Must handle stressful working conditions during emergencies

Job Qualifications

  • Two and a half years of CTA experience in Control Center as Senior Manager I or five years of external control center senior management experience or combination of control center and bus/rail operations senior management experience
  • Bachelor's degree in transportation or related field preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of bus/rail vehicle operations and restoration of service
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, collective bargaining agreements
  • Working knowledge of interviewing methods for employee issues
  • Strong conflict resolution and customer service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Ability to remain calm and respond quickly during emergencies
  • Ability to provide effective solutions with integrity, initiative, and creativity

Job Duties

  • Develops, directs, manages, coordinates and integrates functions and activities of Control Center Bus, Rail, Power, Rail Customer Service Representative/Security Controllers, and Communication Coordinators
  • Supervises, coordinates and directs restoration and issuance of communication directives during incidents and service disruptions
  • Verifies prompt communication with internal and external customers about service disruptions
  • Evaluates and monitors performance of Controllers and Coordinators for compliance and achievement of goals
  • Manages and coordinates policies governing restoration and rerouting of interrupted service
  • Sets emergency response protocols for agency and city-wide incidents
  • Manages communication and interaction among Controllers, Coordinators and field staff during delays
  • Interacts with public utility and city services
  • Provides customer communication during major service delays
  • Synthesizes complex information for senior executive staff
  • Plans, monitors and directs Control Center operations and programs
  • Identifies performance deviations and implements corrective actions
  • Coordinates emergency services with various departments and agencies
  • Assists in planning training, budgeting and manpower needs
  • Manages projects such as Bus Service Management Liaison
  • Hires, trains, develops and evaluates staff
  • Performs related duties as assigned
