Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Culinary school or food service training preferred
- At least 3 years of experience in food preparation or cooking
- Minimum of 1 year in a lead or supervisory cooking role
- Experience with special dietary needs such as low-sodium, diabetic, gluten-free
- Food Safety certification (ServSafe or equivalent)
- Ability to work full-time shifts including weekends and holidays
- Ability to stand for extended periods and handle kitchen equipment
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects as needed
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
Job Qualifications

- Excellent leadership and communication skills to supervise and motivate kitchen staff
- In-depth knowledge of food safety, sanitation practices, and health regulations
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Ability to follow recipes and adjust preparation methods based on dietary needs or preferences
- Strong organizational skills, including time management and multitasking
- Food Safety certification (ServSafe or equivalent) is required
- Additional certifications may be required depending on state or local regulations
Job Duties
- Prepare, cook, and plate meals according to established recipes, dietary requirements, and residents' preferences
- Ensure that all meals meet the nutritional needs of residents, including special dietary requirements such as low-sodium, diabetic, gluten-free
- Monitor portion sizes, presentation, and quality control of all meals served
- Ensure that meals are prepared in a timely manner and meal service times are met
- Lead and supervise kitchen staff, including cooks and kitchen assistants, ensuring efficient and organized meal preparation
- Provide training and guidance to kitchen staff on proper cooking techniques, food safety, sanitation, and equipment use
- Assist in scheduling kitchen staff shifts and delegate tasks during meal service
- Monitor the performance of kitchen staff and provide feedback to improve efficiency and quality
- Ensure that kitchen equipment, tools, and utensils are properly maintained, cleaned, and stored
- Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures to ensure that food is prepared in a safe, hygienic environment
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and work areas, adhering to health and safety regulations
- Properly store food items and manage inventory to prevent food waste and ensure the availability of ingredients for upcoming meals
- Assist in the planning of weekly and monthly menus in collaboration with the Dining Services Director or Executive Chef
- Contribute to recipe creation or adjustments based on residents' preferences and dietary restrictions
- Ensure that meals are diverse, culturally appropriate, and meet the expectations of the residents
- Assist with ordering food, supplies, and kitchen equipment, ensuring proper stock levels are maintained
- Help with inventory management, checking deliveries for accuracy, and reporting any discrepancies
- Monitor food storage and use products on a first-in, first-out (FIFO) basis to minimize waste
- Interact with residents when necessary to understand their dietary preferences and meal requests
- Ensure that meals are presented in an appealing manner and served with a high level of customer service
