Job Requirements
- Four-year degree preferred or equivalent work experience
- Three years or more in leave or disability benefit specialist role
- Mastery of key responsibilities and job specifications of leave or disability benefit specialist roles
- Medical background preferred
- Disability claim or leave management experience
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in complex adjudication decisions
- Ability to manage a wide variety of claims independently
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing return to work strategies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong service and quality orientation
- Effective interaction with claimants, employers, medical professionals, and other stakeholders
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience
- Three or more years experience in Leave or Disability Benefit Specialist role
- Mastery of key responsibilities and job specifications of Leave or Disability Benefit Specialist roles
- Medical background or disability claim and/or leave management experience preferred
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in complex claim adjudication decisions
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing return to work strategies
- Strong service and quality orientation
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective and professional interaction with claimants, employers, medical resources, and others
- Meets the standards of the Talent Management framework
Job Duties
- Timely and accurate adjudication of complex STD claims
- Processing of leaves associated with an employee's own health condition
- Apply technical contractual knowledge to ensure eligibility requirements and liability decisions
- Determine complex eligibility and availability of leave for integrated claims/leaves
- Conduct timely and accurate claims review, validation activities, and communicate rationale for claims action
- Generate communications complying with FMLA and State regulations and customer procedures
- Facilitate roundtables and provide technical coaching and mentoring to colleagues
- Provide manager/director with performance and development feedback for assigned mentees
- Serve as a role model, technical expert, and leader within the team and Benefits Center
- Provide coverage for daily tasks including customer inquiries and calls in management absence
- Verify ongoing liability and return to work opportunities
- Provide excellent customer service by paying claims promptly and responding independently to inquiries
- Develop relationships with employer contacts including HR administrators
- Coordinate file strategies utilizing specialized resources including nurses, physicians, vocational rehabilitation
- Ensure timely referrals/notifications to other areas such as LTD and medical assessments
- Ensure a well-communicated transfer process when transitioning claims from STD to LTD
- Maintain organizational service standards on all assigned claims and leaves
- Be familiar with specialized workflow requirements and performance standards for assigned customers
- Perform other duties as assigned
