Job Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Two years of full-time paid experience operating equipment in large-quantity commercial or institutional food preparation
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe certification within 30 days of appointment
  • Ability to obtain Forklift Operator's Certificate Class III within first three months
  • Basic computer skills to use inventory control software
  • Ability to work 8 hours a day, 12 months a year
  • Commitment to following safety and sanitation regulations
  • Physical ability to work in hot and cold food production areas
  • Willingness to operate large food production equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and customers

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Two years of full-time paid experience operating equipment in large-quantity commercial or institutional food preparation
  • ServSafe certification obtained within 30 days of hire
  • Forklift Operator's Certificate Class III to be obtained within first three months
  • Certification from American School Food Service Association is desirable
  • Knowledge of HACCP and food safety procedures
  • Experience in supervising or leading food production staff
  • Competence in using inventory control and ordering software
  • Ability to operate various food production machinery
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Job Duties

  • Receive production assignments and schedules from the unit supervisor
  • Utilize inventory control software to produce reports, food order documentation, and inventory transfers
  • Receive products and complete production records and monthly inventory counts
  • Place vendor orders via email, phone, and online ordering systems
  • Collaborate with team members to plan, forecast, and develop food production schedules
  • Lead Food Production Workers and Cafeteria Workers in central kitchen tasks
  • Complete and submit product transfers and requisitions
  • Review recipes and menus to estimate ingredient needs and production time
  • Assist in training Food Production Workers and Cafeteria Workers
  • Maintain communication with customers, staff, and vendors
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP and food safety procedures
  • Assemble large-quantity production equipment
  • Check ingredient accuracy and quality
  • Weigh and measure ingredients
  • Adjust recipes as necessary
  • Perform hot and cold food production according to set standards
  • Supervise Food Production Workers to meet safety, sanitation, and quality standards
  • Inspect products for conformity with standards
  • Verify production quantities
  • Package finished products for storage and transport
  • Load and transport food to storage areas
  • Conduct quality control checks prior to delivery
  • Work in alternating hot and cold environments
  • Test new products and equipment
  • Report performance and production issues to supervisor
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment and possibly Class III Electric Motor Hand Trucks
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of production areas and equipment
  • Disassemble, clean, and store equipment
  • Prepare routine production reports
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
