Job Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, English, or a related field
  • At least two years of experience in writing and event planning
  • Strong communication, strategic planning, and organizational skills
  • Experience with digital media, marketing, and social media management
  • Familiarity with college student communities, especially Duke
  • Ability to manage multiple events under tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and graphic design
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • A proactive mindset and ability to work independently and collaboratively

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in writing and event planning
  • Demonstrated skills in communication and strategic event management
  • Competence in digital media, marketing, and social media tools
  • Familiarity with academic environments and student communities
  • Proven ability to handle multiple event projects simultaneously
  • Skilled in WordPress, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and basic graphic design
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities
  • Proactive approach and collaborative work ethic

Job Duties

  • Lead the planning and management of flagship events such as the Sulzberger Distinguished Lecture Series, Early Childhood Initiative Series, and School Research Partnership events
  • Design and implement marketing plans and create promotional materials
  • Manage event calendars and registration systems
  • Coordinate with the Sanford School Communications team
  • Create and manage event budgets
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors
  • Ensure compliance with Duke policies
  • Supervise event personnel and provide AV support
  • Manage staffing schedules
  • Serve as liaison to speakers and guests
  • Represent the Center professionally
  • Plan and manage internal events such as All-Center meetings, certificate student graduations, and staff gatherings
  • Partner with other Duke units to co-host events
  • Support ad hoc projects and strategic planning for high-profile initiatives
