Job Requirements

  • valid driver's license
  • 6 months experience in custodial cleaning operation or equivalent
  • ability to work overtime as required
  • ability to work in inclement weather and hazardous environments including biohazards
  • ability to read and understand written and verbal English instructions
  • basic computer skills
  • knowledge of biohazard cleanup and Material Safety Data Sheets
  • knowledge of safety procedures for asbestos, lead paint, and mold
  • physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and use equipment
  • compliance with California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • current work authorization
  • adherence to university policies and collective bargaining agreements

Job Qualifications

  • 6 months experience in a custodial cleaning operation or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • ability to work in inclement weather and sensitive environments involving solvents, paints, debris, raw sewage, and varying temperatures
  • ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions in English
  • capability to prioritize work orders and emergency requests
  • basic computer skills including email and calendar use
  • knowledge of biohazard cleanup and Material Safety Data Sheets
  • basic knowledge of asbestos, lead paint, or mold safety procedures
  • knowledge of federal and state regulations including Illness and Injury Prevention Program
  • physical ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds
  • ability to work safely on ladders and operate custodial equipment including floor stripping machines, vacuums, pressure washers and carpet cleaning machines

Job Duties

  • work in all phases of routine and emergency cleaning and general maintenance of dining and hospitality facilities including child development centers
  • clean windows, mirrors, floors, walls, ceilings, furniture, carpets, appliances, drinking fountains and related fixtures
  • clean kitchen areas, dining rooms, offices, classrooms, bathrooms, and showers
  • clean and sanitize food production areas and kitchen equipment including exhaust filters and hoods
  • prepare rooms for summer conferences and special events by cleaning, moving furniture, and arranging beds and linens
  • perform setup duties and restore areas for catered events and conference groups
  • clean and sanitize Child Development Center to state mandated standards
  • use various equipment to strip, wax, polish, and maintain buildings
  • move furniture, fixtures and equipment for proper cleaning
  • clean-up biohazards such as blood, vomit, rodent droppings, dead animals and raw sewage
  • move/empty trash and recycling containers and dumpsters
  • clean construction debris from new construction and remodeling projects
  • maintain exteriors through sweeping, blowing sidewalks and stairs, and using pressure washers and riding scrubbers
  • assist with pool maintenance including cleaning and adding chemicals
  • comply with driving license and California Employer Pull Notice requirements
