Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field
  • supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution
  • four years of progressively responsible professional student services experience
  • including advising students individually and in groups
  • and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems
  • master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or job-related field may substitute for one year of professional experience
  • doctorate degree with appropriate internship or clinical training may substitute for two years of required experience for counseling-related positions
  • ability to carry out complex assignments without detailed instructions
  • skill to advise students on varied and complex matters
  • ability to reason logically and solve organizational and operational problems
  • ability to plan, coordinate and implement decisions
  • ability to analyze and define complex organizational or procedural problems
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships involving sensitive or difficult interactions
  • successful completion of a background check
  • compliance with CSU Executive Orders regarding mandatory reporting of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and child abuse

Job Qualifications

  • master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling or Student Affairs preferred
  • professional experience in student activities, fraternity/sorority advising, student organizations, or engagement facilities such as Esports preferred
  • experience managing online student engagement platforms like CampusGroups preferred
  • familiarity with CSU system policies, Title 5, Chancellor’s Office executive orders, and higher education legal frameworks preferred
  • demonstrated experience supporting diverse and multicultural student populations
  • strong understanding of student development, leadership education, and organizational advising
  • demonstrated experience in event planning and execution
  • ability to advise on complex issues including conflict resolution, governance, and policy interpretation
  • knowledge of risk management, fiscal oversight, and assessment strategies
  • familiarity with student engagement platforms such as CampusGroups/MyRaft
  • strong collaboration, organizational, and communication skills
  • technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and related software

Job Duties

  • Serve as the professional staff advisor for the Inter-Club Council and United Sorority & Fraternity Council
  • oversee annual registration, recognition, and reactivation processes for Registered Student Organizations including Greek Life
  • develop and maintain resources like the Student Organization Handbook, Advisor's Guide, and Event Planning Toolkit
  • provide guidance on policy interpretation, event planning, fiscal procedures, and compliance with CSU, university policies, state/federal laws, and risk management
  • advise fraternities and sororities through USFC and chapter leadership
  • prepare compliance reports related to state and federal laws
  • manage registration, recognition, and accreditation processes in alignment with CSU and national standards
  • provide governance, leadership, values-based programming, and risk management training to clubs and advisors
  • serve as liaison among national organizations, advisors, and university stakeholders
  • liaise between RSOs, advisors, Associated Students, Otter Student Union, and other campus partners
  • design and implement leadership development programs, workshops, and conferences
  • coordinate and execute TEDx CSUMB as a signature leadership initiative
  • collaborate with campus partners to host quarterly student leadership training
  • provide leadership coaching, training, and conflict management support
  • partner with departments to deliver inclusive leadership and experiential learning
  • coordinate campus engagement through MyRaft (CampusGroups), supporting student organization operations and event registration
  • train students, advisors, and campus partners on MyRaft usage
  • support campus-wide engagement initiatives including Welcome Back Week, Orientation, Admitted Days, Otter Days, RAFT Week, Open House, and others
  • coordinate recognition initiatives for student leaders, RSOs, and Greek organizations
  • organize and support social programming and engagement initiatives
  • oversee daily operations and policy development of the Esports Lounge
  • collaborate to integrate Esports into student engagement efforts
  • manage Esports budget and supplies
  • organize campus programs related to Esports
  • contribute to departmental retreats and strategic planning
  • assess student engagement and leadership program effectiveness
  • collect, analyze, and publish assessment data on student learning outcomes
  • recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student employees
  • manage budgets, travel, and compliance tracking for RSOs, ICC, and Greek Life
  • perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned
