Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- six months of experience cooking a variety of foods in a large commercial or institutional setting or completion of an approved culinary arts education program
- working knowledge of policies and procedures of a large scale kitchen operation
- working knowledge of operation and care of institutional kitchen equipment
- ability to write legibly
- ability to read and interpret recipes, instructions, production schedules, scales and other graduated measuring devices
- ability to perform simple arithmetic computations
- ability to meet the physical standards of the job
- ability to stand for long periods of time and to work in a warm, humid environment
- ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, other medical center employees, visitors, and the general public
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- six months cooking experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen or completion of an approved culinary arts education program
- working knowledge of large scale kitchen operation policies and procedures
- working knowledge of institutional kitchen equipment operation and care
- ability to write legibly
- ability to read and interpret recipes, instructions, production schedules, and measuring devices
- ability to perform simple arithmetic
- ability to meet physical job standards
- strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships
Job Duties
- Prepares and cooks a variety of food items including more difficult and specialized dishes
- prepares pastries such as pies, rolls, breads, and cookies
- prepares complex items for special diets including low sodium and diabetic meals, tube feedings, and baby formulas
- modifies and adjusts recipes according to number of persons served
- cleans and washes dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
- regularly takes and records temperatures of food items and reports results to supervisor
- maintains high sanitation standards in food preparation and storage to comply with regulatory agencies
- performs other related duties and uses new improvements or technology related to job assignment
