Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience in institutional food production or similar food service environment
- Ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds
- Availability for variable work schedules including weekends and 10-hour shifts
- Ability to comply with health and safety codes including wearing prescribed uniform and maintaining personal hygiene
- Successful completion of background check
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
- Willingness to change work location as needed
- Compliance with vaccination program policies
- Ability to respond promptly and maintain excellent attendance
- Mandatory reporting under CANRA for child abuse and neglect
Job Qualifications
- Skills and knowledge of institutional food production
- Experience working with standardized recipes and production sheets
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation practices in food service
- Ability to operate and maintain food service equipment
- Experience with ordering, storing, and inventory control
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse customers and staff
- Strong mathematical skills for production data and inventory reconciliation
- Writing and reading skills to understand recipes and vendor reports
- Organizational and delegation skills
- Problem solving abilities for handling staffing or equipment issues
- Ability to conduct training for staff and students
- Knowledge of operational management and scheduling
- Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions
Job Duties
- Prepare quality food in a dining or catering environment
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment efficiently
- Ensure compliance with food handling, safety, and cleanliness standards
- Coordinate food production and presentation with quality control
- Assist in training staff and student employees on complex recipe preparation
- Manage inventory controls including ordering, requisitioning, and receiving supplies
- Oversee general operational management including opening, closing, and security of the unit
