Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum two years relevant food service or volume cooking experience
  • Current Food Handlers Permit accredited by TXDSHS or ANSI
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Demonstrated safe food handling and sanitation practices
  • Capacity to adapt to changing work environments
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Capability to work collaboratively with patients, physicians, and staff
  • Physical ability to perform cooking duties and transport food carts

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Two years food service or large quantity cooking experience in healthcare or hotel setting
  • Food Handlers Permit from accredited issuers
  • Preferred ServSafe certification
  • Proficient English speaking, reading, and writing skills
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen equipment and sanitation principles
  • Understanding of buffet receptions and plated menu items
  • Competency in fundamental cooking techniques including braising and searing

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook entrees, side dishes, and specialty products using provided recipes
  • Prepare specialty dishes for catered events including physician dinners and recognition ceremonies
  • Maintain adequate food production for patient meals, café, catering, and doctor's lounge
  • Adhere to Houston Methodist Food and Nutrition Services standards and local food ordinances
  • Review and maintain production records and cooling charts per HACCP guidelines
  • Assist in other food and nutrition service areas as needed
  • Ensure food quality, freshness, and proper sanitation in work areas
