Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two or more years of production cooking experience
  • proficiency with commercial kitchen equipment
  • strong math skills
  • ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 75 pounds frequently
  • ability to work in high temperature and humidity conditions
  • ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions
  • food handlers' card within 30 days of hire (for Banner Staffing Services team members)
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card for employees at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital
  • ability to pass food safety certification
  • willingness to work varied shifts starting between 4:30 AM and 1 AM

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two or more years of production cooking experience
  • proficiency in commercial kitchen equipment
  • strong math skills
  • ability to read and understand recipes and instructions
  • knowledge of cooking principles and menu substitutions
  • ability to follow safety and food handling regulations
  • preferred healthcare experience
  • preferred experience in high-volume, short order cooking environments
  • leadership skills to guide kitchen staff

Job Duties

  • Prepare all food items according to standardized recipes
  • adjust recipe quantities for correct yields
  • notify supervisor of any production problems
  • plan food production timing and quantities based on daily orders and menu assignments
  • determine menu substitutions in case of shortages
  • consult with diet tech or dietician for special diet substitutions
  • minimize food waste through appropriate planning and tracking
  • record food shortages and excess quantities
  • check and log food and equipment temperatures
  • report problems to supervisor
  • maintain par levels of food and supplies
  • order and restock items according to routines
  • rotate food stocks and check freshness dates
  • keep assigned work areas clean and orderly
  • report needed equipment repairs
  • receive and check deliveries from vendors
  • oversee production quality when required
  • provide leadership and knowledge in cooking and food preparation to kitchen staff
  • assist with customer service in café or catering work assignments
