Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two or more years of similar work experience in production cooking
  • Solid understanding of cooking principles and menu substitutions
  • Ability to use commercial kitchen equipment
  • Ability to learn and follow established food handling policies and procedures
  • Effective communication skills
  • Basic math skills for recipe calculations
  • Must pass food handling certification test as required
  • Ability to perform tasks within limited time frames
  • Availability to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays
  • For certain locations, possession of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and maintain sanitation standards

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two or more years of experience in institutional food production or related cooking experience
  • Knowledge of cooking principles and menu substitutions for commonly prescribed diets
  • Proficient in the use of commercial kitchen equipment
  • Ability to read and follow standardized recipes
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations for recipe and food quantity adjustments
  • Food handling certification or ability to obtain one
  • Experience working in a healthcare or fast-paced food service environment preferred
  • Additional education or related experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare all food items according to standardized recipes
  • Adjust recipe quantities for correct yields
  • Notify supervisor of any production problems
  • Plan food production timing and quantities according to daily orders and menu requirements
  • Minimize food waste through effective planning and tracking
  • Check and log food and equipment temperatures, reporting issues to supervisor
  • Maintain par levels of food and supplies, reorder and restock as necessary
  • Keep work areas clean and orderly
  • Receive and check incoming deliveries from vendors
  • Provide leadership and knowledge in cooking and food preparation to kitchen staff
  • Assist with menu planning and oversee production quality when needed
