Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years experience in sales and marketing, guest services, front desk or related professional field
- OR 2-year degree from accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related major
- Ability to manage catering sales and handle complex opportunities
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency in contract negotiation and customer service
- Ability to work full time in Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront
- Commitment to Marriott's customer service and brand standards
- Ability to supervise sales associates
- Flexible to perform other duties as assigned
- Eligible to work legally in the United States
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with 2 years of relevant experience
- OR 2-year degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related field
- Preferred: 2 years catering sales experience
- Strong negotiation and closing skills
- Ability to develop creative catering solutions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Experience working in a team-oriented environment
- Knowledge of hospitality industry standards and brand service strategies
- Ability to analyze market trends and competitor strengths
- Leadership and supervisory experience
Job Duties
- Manages sales efforts for local corporate and social catering
- Responds to incoming catering opportunities for the property
- Identifies, qualifies and solicits new catering business
- Solicits affiliate business from approved citywide event affiliates
- Understands market conditions and competitor strengths and weaknesses
- Closes catering business opportunities and negotiates contracts
- Works with management to develop and implement catering sales plans
- Designs and sells creative catered events
- Maximizes revenue through up-selling packages and creative food and beverage
- Develops and manages catering sales revenue and budget forecasts
- Develops menus to drive sales
- Assists with catering promotions
- Implements Marriott customer service and brand standards
- Ensures seamless turnover from sales to operations
- Supervises catering sales associates
- Achieves catering revenue goals by up-selling
- Builds strong relationships with off-property sales channels
- Provides exemplary customer service to drive customer satisfaction
- Handles complex social and corporate catering opportunities
- Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs
