Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 1-2 years of relevant food preparation experience
  • ability to follow detailed instructions
  • familiarity with kitchen equipment operation
  • ability to work part-time, 32 hours per week
  • physical ability to lift 40-50 pounds
  • effective communication skills
  • willingness to work day shifts under supervision

Job Qualifications

  • ability to read, write, understand, and follow oral and written instructions in English
  • 1-2 years work experience in food preparation including 1 year as a cook
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ability to lift items weighing approximately 40-50 pounds

Job Duties

  • prepares, seasons, and cooks food items following recipes and menus
  • assists in preparing less complicated menu items such as breakfast, lunch, and selected dinners
  • coordinates work of cook helpers and other kitchen staff
  • operates kitchen equipment including ovens, grills, fryers, steamers, mixers, and slicers
  • measures and mixes ingredients to make stocks, sauces, gravies, soups, stews, casseroles, and other foods
  • prepares food portions, applies garnishments, and assists with patient meal trays
  • tests food for quality by sight, smell, taste, temperature, and feel
  • maintains sanitation and safety standards
  • records food usage and leftovers
