Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • At least 1 year of security, public safety, or related customer service experience
  • Ability to obtain required certifications including CHSO and Stop the Bleed
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass background investigation, drug screening, and physical exams
  • Must be physically capable of walking, standing, lifting up to 35 lbs., and handling stressful/emotional situations
  • Excellent emotional intelligence and communication skills
  • Ability to use a computer for documentation
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor under pressure
  • For Illinois employees, completion of the 20-hour Basic Security Officer course
  • Certification in the use of Conducted Energy Weapons within 90 days

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in security, public safety, or customer service with exposure to emergent situations
  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by IAHSS must be obtained within two years
  • For North Carolina employees, possession of an Unarmed Guard License within 1 year
  • Stop the Bleed Certification obtained within 1 year of hire
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Certification in Conducted Energy Weapon use within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in computer use for documentation
  • Successful completion of background checks and physical exams
  • Completion of the Illinois 20-hour Basic Security Officer course for Illinois employees

Job Duties

  • Provides security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion
  • Inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor
  • Performs routine interior and exterior patrols including inspections for vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions
  • Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence and emergency situations
  • Serves as a resource for conflict de-escalation, including use of conducted energy weapons and physical restraint when necessary
  • Investigates incidents on Advocate Health property and completes accurate reports
  • Liaises with law enforcement agencies and coordinates prisoner patient guards
  • Assists with traffic and crowd control including parking enforcement and valet assistance
