Job Requirements
- Appointment subject to suitability or fitness determination based on background investigation
- meet Individual Reliability Program requirements including passing Physical Agility Test
- complete pre-employment physical examination and annual health reviews
- pass pre-employment and random drug screenings
- ability to work shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
- work planned and unscheduled overtime
- proficiency in firearms with initial qualification and semi-annual re-qualification
- complete initial and annual in-service security guard training
- possess certification in CPR with AED training
- use personal protective equipment
- maintain valid state driver’s license
- wear prescribed uniform
- participate in training on use of deadly force, anti/counter-terrorism, first aid, firearms, search and seizure, security operations
- physical ability to conduct searches and restrain persons
- report to work during emergencies
- complete specialized maritime training such as Tactical Coxswain Course and Commercial Vessel Boarding School
- complete NCIC/NLETS required training
- comply with Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban restrictions
- pass state CJIS certification if required
- complete maritime crew member training within two years if applicable
- maintain eligibility for Secret security clearance
- work indoors and outdoors
- maintain law enforcement system certification
- complete one-year probationary period
- male applicants born after Dec 31, 1959 must provide Selective Service registration
- provide proof of US citizenship
- direct deposit of pay required
- salary includes applicable locality pay
- may require 25% temporary duty or business travel
Job Qualifications
- One year of specialized experience working with a federal, state, municipal, local or private protective organization involving protection of property or maintaining order
- knowledge of protective systems and techniques
- experience enforcing security rules and regulations
- experience performing security patrols and traffic control
- ability to monitor alarm systems and respond to security incidents
- no substitution of education for experience is permitted
- US citizenship
Job Duties
- Control access of vehicles, pedestrians, boats, rail cars and aircraft/drone access to the terminal
- perform badge spot checks, random vehicle inspections of incoming and outgoing containers/equipment
- respond to emergency situations
- guard and protect federally owned property, buildings and equipment
- conduct rudimentary inquiries and interview witnesses/suspects of violations
- perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations
- enforce the security and safety regulations of the terminal
