Job Requirements
- High school education preferred
- Successful completion of apprenticeship or training program or equivalent experience
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages and ratios
- Ability to complete required reports accurately
- Ability to hear, speak and understand spoken word for communication
- Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret English language
- Must be physically capable of sitting, standing and using hands regularly
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Specific vision abilities to check identification cards and documents
- Ability to climb ladders, sweep, mop floors and maintain cleanliness
- Physical agility to respond quickly to emergencies
- Ability to work with fresh produce without allergic reactions
- Tolerance to dust and chemical fumes from cleaning agents
- Ability to memorize weekly ad prices and specials
- Willingness to work in temperature varied environments including refrigerated and heated areas
Job Qualifications
- High school education preferred
- Successful completion of apprenticeship or training program preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered
- Basic math skills including the ability to calculate discounts, percentages, and ratios
- Ability to complete reports accurately including sales, inventory, and cash reconciliation
- Effective verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in reading and understanding English to follow instructions and company policies
Job Duties
- Greet all customers and provide prompt and courteous service or assistance
- Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
- Manage cash drawer contents at the start and end of shifts
- Ensure cash accountability including over/shorts of till
- Scan or record customer purchases efficiently and accurately
- Be knowledgeable about produce merchandise and assist customers with bulk products
- Collect payments and tender accurate change according to policies
- Process various sales transactions including cash, checks, WIC coupons, food stamps, manufacturer coupons, gift certificates
- Bag or package merchandise in accordance with company policies
- Handle damaged or spoiled products and return to stock
- Ring sales into cash register following cash handling procedures
- Verify customer IDs and enforce store policies on check acceptance and alcohol sales
- Report irregularities in cash handling exceeding $5
- Record price discrepancies and request price checks promptly
- Maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards regularly
- Keep checkout, sales and storage areas clean and orderly
- Use and maintain equipment, reporting malfunctions
- Adhere to policies on excessive cash in registers and perform cash pickups
- Observe security standards and report abnormal customer behavior
- Secure register when unattended to protect company assets
- Notify managers of personnel or policy issues affecting store operations
- Assist in training associates and maintain good departmental communication
- Comply with safety policies
- Maintain neat and professional appearance
