Job Requirements

  • High school education preferred with successful completion of an apprenticeship/training program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, and ratios
  • Ability to accurately complete required reports including daily sales reports and inventory counts
  • Ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken English
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand English language proficiently
  • Ability to sit, stand, and use hands regularly
  • Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform physical housekeeping duties
  • Ability to tolerate dust, chemical fumes, and refrigerated environments
  • Ability to work with fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers without allergic reactions
  • Ability to memorize weekly ad prices and daily produce specials

Job Qualifications

  • High school education preferred
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
  • Ability to calculate figures including discounts and percentages for sales transactions
  • Skill to accurately complete required reports such as daily sales and inventory counts
  • Ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken word for effective communication
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding English to follow instructions and company policies
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Strong customer service and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations
  • Responsible for cash drawer contents at the start and end of shifts
  • Manage cashier accountability including over/shorts of till
  • Scan or record customer purchases efficiently and accurately
  • Be knowledgeable in produce merchandise and assist customers with bulk products
  • Collect money from customers and tender accurate change according to company policies
  • Process various types of sales transactions including accounts receivable, EFT, WIC Coupons, Food Stamps, manufacturers' coupons, and gift certificates
  • Bag or package merchandise according to company policies
  • Handle damaged or spoiled products and return-to-stocks according to policy
  • Ring all sales into cash register following cash handling procedures
  • Verify customer IDs and observe store policies related to checks and alcoholic beverage sales
  • Notify management of any cash discrepancies exceeding $5 or store-specific limits
  • Record price discrepancies and request price checks on items not on file promptly
  • Maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards regularly
  • Keep checkout, sales and storage areas clean and orderly
  • Use and maintain equipment properly and report any malfunctions
  • Adhere to policies regarding excessive cash and cash pickups
  • Observe security standards and report abnormal behavior to management or security
  • Secure register when unattended and protect company assets
  • Notify department manager of personnel or policy issues affecting store performance
  • Perform additional work-related duties as assigned
  • Assist in training associates and maintain good communication
  • Comply with safety policies and maintain neat personal appearance
