Job Requirements

  • Education equivalent to a high school diploma or higher
  • Relevant work experience in food service or cafeteria management
  • Ability to work full-time and attend school visits regularly
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations
  • Ability to prepare detailed reports and instructional materials
  • Compliance with Hawaii State Department of Education regulations
  • Verification of experience and supporting documents as required

  • Experience in food service supervision or management
  • Knowledge of nutrition and food safety standards
  • Ability to instruct and train staff effectively
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations regarding school lunch programs
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to engage with school officials and community members
  • Experience in inventory management and resource allocation

Job Duties

  • Visit public schools to supervise cafeteria managers for efficient cafeteria operations
  • Review and instruct on school lunch menus for balanced nutrition
  • Direct improvements in food preparation, serving, storage, and purchasing methods
  • Instruct on hygiene, cleaning methods, and kitchen safety practices
  • Check cafeteria records and explain policies and procedures
  • Inspect public and private schools for proper use and storage of federal food commodities
  • Report on maintenance of lunch standards by public schools
  • Recommend transfer and placement of school lunch personnel and encourage further training
  • Review cafeteria equipment and supply needs and recommend equipment transfers between schools
  • Participate in in-service training for cafeteria managers
  • Review and act on reports prepared by cafeteria managers
  • Prepare summary reports on cafeteria operations and work activities
  • Prepare instructional and informational materials related to the school lunch program
  • Participate in the review of plans for remodeling and building school cafeterias
  • Discuss school lunch programs with school officials, groups, and individuals
