Job Requirements

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in food service management or nutrition
  • Or have four years of extensive food service management or nutrition-related experience
  • Must have experience involving training and directing personnel, managing purchase and storage of food and supplies, enforcing sanitary regulations, preparing records and reports, and planning menus
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid food handler’s training certification from accredited organizations
  • Ability to work full-time in a temporary 12-month assignment
  • Must be able to provide supporting documents verifying experience and education
  • Meet all requirements by application date

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with specialization in food service management or nutrition
  • Four years of experience in food service management including training personnel, managing purchases, enforcing sanitary regulations, preparing records and reports, and planning menus
  • Experience as a teacher or consultant in nutrition or food service management may be considered
  • Possession of a Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of required experience
  • Ability to perform duties of the supervisory position effectively
  • Valid food handler's training certification from recognized organizations
  • Valid driver's license

Job Duties

  • Visit public schools in assigned district and supervise cafeteria managers for effective and efficient cafeteria operations
  • Review and instruct on school lunch menus to maintain well-balanced lunches
  • Review and direct improvements in food preparation, serving, storage, and purchasing methods
  • Instruct cafeteria staff on cleaning, hygiene, and safe kitchen practices
  • Check cafeteria records and reports, explaining pertinent policies and procedures
  • Inspect schools for proper use and storage of federal food commodities
  • Report on maintenance of lunch standards by public schools
  • Recommend transfer and placement of school lunch personnel and encourage further training
  • Review cafeteria equipment and supply needs and recommend transfers between schools
  • Participate in in-service training of cafeteria managers and review reports prepared by them
  • Prepare summary reports of cafeteria operations and work activities
  • Develop printed guides and instructional materials related to the school lunch program
  • Participate in review of plans for remodeling and building school cafeterias
  • Discuss the school lunch program with school officials, groups, and individuals
