Job Requirements

  • Previous cooking or baking experience preferred

  • Physical capability to perform necessary tasks including lifting and standing

  • Ability to lead and assist staff in meal preparation

  • Basic math skills for handling money and inventory
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for prolonged periods
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and interruptions

Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve attractive, high quality, nutritious, cost effective meals following standardized procedures
  • Comply with approved safety and sanitation procedures
  • Assist in the cleaning of kitchen, equipment, tables and storeroom as scheduled
  • Report equipment malfunctions to ensure safe working conditions
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate food and supply inventories
  • Direct or assist unit employees in meal preparation tasks during emergencies or training
  • Maintain required daily records and reports and submit to Kitchen Manager
  • Collect money and account for meals served if requested
  • Maintain a plate count for records
  • Promote Child Nutrition Services programs to increase meal participation
  • Assist school staff in promoting proper nutrition
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relations with others
  • Perform related duties as assigned
