Job Description

Job Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- progressively responsible work experience in quantity cooking and food service management
- supervisory aptitude
- possession of valid food handler's training level certification from an approved organization
- ability to maintain records and prepare reports
- knowledge of federal and state regulations related to school food programs
- ability to plan menus and modify them according to dietary needs
- experience in ordering and inventory management
- compliance with safety and sanitation standards
- ability to train and supervise staff
- willingness to meet annual training requirements as outlined by USDA
- successful completion of background checks as required by the Department of Education.
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- progressively responsible experience in food preparation including quantity cooking and menu planning
- experience in food service management with responsibility for daily operations including fiscal management and recordkeeping
- supervisory aptitude demonstrated through prior supervisory roles or training
- possession of valid food handler's training certification
- ability to train and supervise employees
- knowledge of safety and sanitation regulations
- experience maintaining budgets and ordering supplies
- strong organizational and communication skills.
Job Duties
- In consultation with the principal and School Food Service Branch, determines and develops plans for efficient service, equipment, facilities, and operations
- manages and directs the daily food service operations
- reviews and revises internal operating procedures
- establishes and maintains high standards of quality control for food production and distribution
- supervises the preparation of approved menus and recipes and the serving of reimbursable meals under USDA meal pattern requirements
- modifies menus to accommodate prescribed dietary needs
- participates in the interview and selection of food service employees
- plans, directs, schedules, and evaluates the work of subordinates
- provides orientation and training on work practices, safety, sanitation, portion control, and equipment operations
- estimates and orders food and supplies to meet menu needs
- maintains inventory and financial reports manually or using a computer
- monitors and controls expenditures and maintains budgets
- inspects kitchen and dining areas for compliance with health and safety regulations
- schedules and supervises maintenance and repair of equipment
- coordinates satellite food serving operations as needed
- attends staff meetings and maintains certifications.
