Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • At least one year of general experience in cooking food
  • Specialized experience in quantity cooking in an institutional or similar setting
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and prepare large quantities of food
  • Skilled in food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to perform manual food preparation tasks
  • Ability to supervise and instruct helpers
  • Must be available for full-time temporary 12-month assignment
  • Willingness to attend training and comply with USDA requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Knowledge of preparing and cooking food demonstrated through related work experience
  • Proficiency in quantity cooking as evidenced by experience in large-scale food preparation
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and adjust yields
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen equipment use
  • Experience in supervising and training others in food service operations
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and manage inventory

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate meal preparation with other food service employees to meet service times and delivery schedules
  • Review food production records and plan cooking/preparation accordingly
  • Weigh and measure ingredients per standardized recipes and production needs
  • Prepare, cook, and heat various foods including sandwiches, breakfast items, and supplementary meals
  • Set up serving counters, serve students and staff, and replenish food as needed
  • Portion and direct packing of menu items for satellite meals
  • Clean and maintain work areas and equipment in a sanitary and orderly manner
  • Label, store, or dispose of leftover foods and document accordingly
  • Receive provisions, document product temperatures, report discrepancies, and assist in inventory and records maintenance
  • Instruct and supervise cafeteria and other helpers, assist in training new employees, and oversee satellite serving operations
  • Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and achieve USDA-required training hours
