Job Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Six months of work experience as an apprentice or helper in a kitchen acquiring basic baking skills
- One year of work experience as a baker with hands-on experience producing baked goods from scratch in large quantities
- Ability to perform quantity baking including knowledge of ingredients, recipe adjustments, baking times, and safety practices
- Ability to supervise cafeteria helpers and assist in training food service employees
- Willingness to attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
- Compliance with sanitation and food safety standards
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Six months of work experience as an apprentice or helper in a kitchen acquiring basic baking skills
- One year of specialized work experience as a baker in a restaurant, hotel, hospital, school, or institution
- Proficiency in quantity baking including knowledge of baking ingredients and standard recipe adjustments
- Ability to use, care for, and safely handle baking utensils, tools, and equipment
- Knowledge of food handling and kitchen safety sanitation practices
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to recipe yield and bread equivalents
Job Duties
- Coordinates and works closely with other food service employees to ensure baked goods are prepared in a timely manner
- Reviews daily production records and secures necessary ingredients and equipment for baking
- Accurately weighs, measures, and mixes ingredients according to standardized recipes
- Prepares mixes and bakes various baked goods including bread, rolls, biscuits, muffins, and pizza crusts
- Sets up serving counters, serves students and staff, and replenishes food items as needed
- Portions and directs the portioning/packing of menu items for satellite meals
- Cleans and maintains work areas, serving counters, and dining areas
- Properly labels, stores, and disposes of leftover foods and documents production records
- Receives provisions, documents product temperatures, and assists in inventory management
- Directs and instructs cafeteria helpers and assists in training new food service employees
- Attends staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training to meet USDA training requirements
