Job Requirements
- Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to read and write effectively
- Some experience working with children or young adults in a recreational environment is highly desirable
- Must be at least 16 years old by July 1 of the current year
- Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid California driver’s license or use alternative transportation methods
- Ability to lift frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, and walk on uneven ground
- Willingness to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic methods, procedures and practices of recreational activities
- Understanding of principles and practices of supervising children and young adults
- Familiarity with principles and practices of coordinating activities
- Knowledge of safe work practices
- Ability to learn principles and objectives of recreational activities
- Ability to deal effectively with various groups and individuals
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Job Duties
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting recreation activities for children and young adults at various locations
- Implement recreational games, contests, arts and crafts, skits, and sports
- Ensure setup and safety of facilities for planned activities
- Oversee facility use and ensure patrons conform to policies and procedures
- Report maintenance concerns and maintain adequate supplies and inventory
- Assist in special events and other recreational activities
- Attend meetings, training sessions, and assist in program presentations
