Job Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- 6 to 12 months basic housekeeping experience
- Must be able to read English to understand equipment manuals
- Ability to lift or carry up to 70 pounds and push or pull up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to work early morning shifts including every other weekend and holidays
- Ability to follow strict infection control and safety guidelines
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and orderly environment
- Good physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Follows an established schedule of collection of trash, medical waste and sharp containers
- Uses waste compactor, waste sterilizer, appropriate carts, and other necessary equipment
- Cleans and services the hospital areas as assigned to maintain the hospital in an orderly, safe and sanitary condition
- Demonstrates I-CARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence) in daily work and interactions
- Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers
- Addresses questions and concerns promptly or identifies appropriate resources
- Uses effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns
- Works efficiently managing schedule to complete tasks on time
- Contributes to continuous improvement opportunities and processes
- Participates in efforts to reduce costs and streamline work processes
- Follows established infection control and isolation guidelines using standard precautions
- Has adequate knowledge of department equipment, chemicals, policies and procedures
- Maintains cart and equipment in clean and good working condition
- Collects and transports trash, needle boxes, and soiled materials from assigned locations to compactor/sterilizer area
- Operates autoclave and helps monitor temperature by utilization of steam pack and vial system
- Empties autoclave following departmental procedures and maintains records
- Maintains cleanliness of waste compactor room by cleaning walls, vents, ceiling and floors
- Correctly handles infectious waste, linen and needle boxes according to procedures
- Performs additional projects as assigned by manager or supervisor
- Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance
- Demonstrates teamwork by helping co-workers and communicating effectively
