Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year full-time experience in safety enforcement or similar duties
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State OSHA regulations
  • Ability to conduct health and safety training
  • Ability to recognize hazards and initiate corrective actions
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials
  • Ability to access military bases
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Physical capability to traverse shipyard including climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to spend up to 70 percent of time outdoors in varying climates
  • Ability to comply with all safety requirements.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year full-time experience in safety enforcement or related duties
  • Knowledge of Federal and State OSHA regulations
  • Ability to deliver health and safety training
  • Ability to recognize health and safety hazards
  • Working knowledge of hazardous materials
  • Familiarity with ship configuration and shipbuilding operations
  • Competent in safe operation of tools and machinery
  • Proficient in computer software including MS Office and iOS applications
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to provide solutions to routine technical problems.

Job Duties

  • Assist Safety Manager and other Safety Department personnel in duties
  • Conduct routine compliance inspections
  • Investigate accidents
  • Prepare and disseminate information on safety principles, regulations, standards, and methods
  • Prepare reports
  • Conduct daily inspections of assigned areas ensuring compliance
  • Identify hazards or deficiencies and initiate corrective actions
  • Prepare written reports on inspections, accident investigations, and other safety concerns
  • Write safety articles for training programs
  • Review reports and training materials generated by others
  • Conduct safety training classes including new hire orientation and specialized training
  • Conduct subcontractor safety orientation
  • Review current safety literature and regulations
  • Attend or conduct safety meetings with management and safety committees
  • Establish close working relationships with department and ship managers
  • Participate in Safety Management System audits and ISO 45001 activities
  • Perform other assigned responsibilities and duties.
