Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3 years emergency management, environment of care or related field required
  • driver’s license upon hire required
  • certified healthcare emergency professional (CHEP) 2 years required
  • other hazwoper certification 12 months required

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • bachelor’s degree preferred in business or healthcare administration, safety engineering, emergency management, fire science, decontamination or related field
  • 3 years emergency management or environment of care experience required
  • decontamination management experience preferred
  • driver’s license upon hire required
  • certified healthcare emergency professional (CHEP) 2 years required
  • other hazwoper certification 12 months required

Job Duties

  • plan, implement and manage regulatory compliance with environment of care, life safety, emergency preparedness and management
  • ensure hospital maintains a current statement of conditions and enforce life safety code
  • participate and assure hazard surveillance for building and grounds
  • document information on the department according to established protocol
  • collaborate with healthcare organizations, cities and emergency responders for community-wide emergency response
  • manage decontamination specialty staff including interviewing, recruitment, training and compensation
  • perform all duties of the safety officer and act on any immediate threat to life, health, equipment or buildings
