Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
- Minimum five years’ experience in heavy civil construction safety management
- Current OSHA 30-hour Construction training
- NYC DOB SST 62-hour and 40-hour Site Safety Manager certifications
- SSPC/AMPP C-3/C-5 Competent Person Lead Removal certification
- NYS DOL Asbestos Inspector License
- MTA NYCT Track Training Certification
- Proven leadership skills
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to conduct safety training and jobsite inspections
- Ability to investigate and report incidents
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Previous MTA experience
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or four-year equivalent degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, science, or related field preferred but not required
- Five plus years’ experience in heavy civil construction preferably in a management safety role
- Working knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques
- Ability to identify known and potential exposures and recommend corrective actions
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite programs
- Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills
- Current and up-to-date safety training including OSHA 30-hour Construction, NYC DOB SST 62-hour, NYC DOB 40-hour Site Safety Manager Course, SSPC/AMPP C-3/C-5 Competent Person Lead Removal, NYS DOL Asbestos Inspector License, MTA NYCT Track Training Certification
- Previous MTA experience required
Job Duties
- Develop site specific safety programs
- Direct and oversee day-to-day activities of multiple site safety coordinators
- Maintain ongoing training and mentoring of site safety coordinators
- Establish and conduct jobsite orientation for new employees
- Attend initial meetings with Project Staff and Subcontractors to define safety roles
- Conduct regular weekly safety meetings and maintain logs
- Review subcontractors' safety programs to ensure compliance
- Conduct daily jobsite and work area inspections
- Conduct job briefings and pre-shift safety training
- Perform weekly formal jobsite inspections and complete safety checklists
- Record and report safety violations and unsafe practices
- Enforce immediate correction of violations and unsafe practices
- Assist in establishing safety procedures including evacuation and fire control
- Investigate all incidents and generate reports
- Maintain all required job safety records
- Conduct monthly safety overview meetings
- Assist Claims Manager in managing claims
- Attend Project Staff Meetings to discuss safety issues and job progress
