Job Description

Simon Kenton Council is one of the largest Scouting America councils, serving 18 counties in central and southern Ohio, along with Greenup County in northern Kentucky. It is a non-profit organization committed to youth development, leadership training, and community service. With over 3,700 dedicated volunteers and more than 25 staff members, the council provides enriching activities to more than 10,000 young people each year. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field
  • Minimum six years of professional experience in youth protection, child services, or law enforcement
  • Comprehensive understanding of child abuse laws and youth development principles
  • Ability to lead safety training and conduct facilities risk assessments
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality and exercise adaptability
  • Experience collaborating with volunteers and staff in a community-oriented environment

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field such as Social Work or Psychology
  • Six or more years of experience in youth protection, child services, or law enforcement
  • Knowledge of child abuse laws, youth development, and safety regulations
  • Strong skills in teamwork, conflict management, communication, and risk assessment
  • Proven ability to build trust, maintain confidentiality, and work with diverse groups
  • Experience delivering in-person and virtual safety briefings to leaders and boards

Job Duties

  • Develop and implement local safeguarding youth strategies in alignment with national policies
  • Communicate and support safety standards across council programs and camps focusing on prevention
  • Analyze incident data and implement risk mitigation in collaboration with national safety teams
  • Promote incident reporting and engage external experts for program reviews
  • Serve as internal and external safeguarding youth leader and advisor
  • Collaborate with leadership to build a strong safety culture
  • Assess risks in scouting programs, properties, and facilities and implement safety improvements
  • Educate and motivate staff and volunteers on youth protection best practices
