Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience in safety management and construction of complex infrastructure projects
  • eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • knowledge of transit safety and security certification processes
  • understanding of crane operations and requirements
  • familiar with port authority and airport work zone safety regulations
  • ability to analyze situations and recommend solutions

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • bachelor's degree in safety management or related field is desired
  • 10+ years of experience in safety management and construction of complex infrastructure projects, preferably at major airports
  • five (5)+ years of experience in the field of safety management or in a related area preferred
  • experience with and understanding of transit safety and security certification processes
  • full understanding and oversight of crane operations and requirements
  • familiar with port authority and airport work zone safety regulations
  • working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings, specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to discipline
  • ability to analyze situations, identify problems and recommend solutions
  • understand, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts and labor/management agreements
  • make, support and explain recommendations and decisions
  • familiarity with Procore is desired
  • MS Office proficiency (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • desired certifications include construction health and safety technician, site safety training supervisor card, 40-hour NYC DOB site safety manager course, OSHA 30

Job Duties

  • maintains a safe jobsite, monitors safety and takes appropriate action to correct any safety issues or deficiencies
  • monitors activities at construction sites, conducting daily site inspections
  • ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization
  • works to ensure contract specifications are adhered to
  • coordinates with project overhead team and owners, as needed
  • assesses safety needs for training purposes
  • schedules and implements established training programs
  • ensures training requirements are adhered to and maintains all training documentation
  • monitors subcontractor safety training
  • ensures project(s) monthly safety statistics are reviewed for accuracy and forwarded to the safety director
  • conducts new hire orientations, sets up drug testing appointments for new craft employees
  • creates and distributes the minutes of the safety committee meetings
  • reviews accident procedures with superintendent
  • monitors all accidents and maintains appropriate paperwork and files pertaining to same
  • completes incident reports and distributes and maintains incident documentation and files
  • maintains SDS and hazardous communication program for subcontractors
  • gathers toolbox reports from foreman and subcontractors
  • receives and monitors subcontractor safety reports and responds when discrepancies occur in monthly man-hour report
  • purchases safety equipment
  • originates in-take of all EEO, harassment and workplace violence claims and forwards to human resources
  • prepares and reviews the minutes of safety meetings (weekly sub coordination)
  • creative and resourceful in completing tasks accurately in a compressed timeframe
  • other duties or responsibilities as per your supervisor
